MIAMI (Nov. 22, 2013) – The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA), led by CABA President and Meland Russin & Budwick Partner Sandra M. Ferrera, served as host to the recent Legal Aspects of Doing Business in the Americas, a one-day conference to discuss the complex regulatory, legal, market and cultural issues related to conducting business in Latin America. Meland Russin & Budwick Co-founding Shareholder Mark Meland and Partner Solomon Genet served as panel speakers at the conference, which took place at the InterContinental Miami Hotel in downtown Miami.
Featured workshop topics included international arbitration; cross-border insolvency and bankruptcy; employment; Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance; immigration; cross-border litigation; trade opportunities; real estate; and intellectual property issues in cyberspace. Nine Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits were provided for attorneys. More information is available on CABA’s website.
Meland served as panelist for “Real Estate: Foreign Investment in U.S. Real Property.” The panel analyzed the legal challenges of acquiring, owning and disposing of U.S. real property for the non-resident alien individual and foreign corporate investor.
Genet served as moderator for the panel, “Cross-Border Insolvency and Chapter 15 Bankruptcy: Navigating Insolvency Considerations in a Multi-National Context.” The panel discussed current and emerging trends in navigating insolvency for entities with assets or debts that cross national borders.
“With South Florida companies increasingly eyeing opportunities and expanding business ties with Latin America, we are proud to have provided this conference with an exceptional roster of legal practitioners and academics to help attorneys and entrepreneurs navigate the complex waters of commerce across the region,” Ferrera said.
